Comic Books and Theatre, Superheroes and The Stage; A combination of these two arts has recently become a fresh theme thanks to Julie Taymor’s Broadway behemoth, Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark. While Spidey is a musical, the project that Gabriel P. Cooper and Jonathan Wierenga are developing is a stage play exploring a similar topic. The Outstanding Eight chronicles the relationship of a famed superhero team after a tragic event takes place in New York City, which they were unable to prevent. The script deeply explores the psyche of super-powered humans and the effects of power on their social life and thought process.

Michigan State University has been known for first-class productions that receive wide and enthusiastic acclaim. The Outstanding Eight will be another theatrical production that will introduce a fresh glance into the theatrical practice.

Cooper’s plans for this show are grandiose and he will not settle for a petty production. Cooper and Wierenga, the show’s writers, have hired a famed comic book artist, Jason Howard (The Astounding Wolf-Man), to work alongside the production crew in developing the visual aspects of our show.

Currently, The Outstanding Eight has received a lot of interest from the local community. Originally Cooper had planned to perform the show on a smaller student production oriented stage, but with the rising popularity of the project he’s decided to move the show to a larger stage. And he needs your help.
