Jen’s Weekly Comics Update
by Jen on Aug.14, 2010, under Comics, New this week
Hey everyone, as of this week I’m going to start spouting off about things that get shipped into 21st Century on new comic day!
I’ve got a few goals for myself; I’ll try to get the post down on Wednesday, I’ll try to keep all of my commentary positive or at least constructive (there’s plenty of negative if you want it all over the web), and I’ll try to avoid spoilers. Possible spoiler text will be in white on our white page background – you’ll have to highlight it if you want to read it.
Now that there’s a guideline, the outline will be Weekly Favorites, Pleasant Surprises and Trades to Watch Out For.
August 11 2010
Weekly Favorites
Walking Dead #76: This title continues to provide issue by issue suspense. Rick remains just at the end of his rope, and the last page cliffhanger returns again to mess with us all. Walking Dead could be a weekly and I’d still be excited.
Welcome to Tranquility; One Foot in the Grave #2: A favorite of mine from a couple years ago returns with more intrigue and nostalgia exploitation. If you missed the first series and subsequent two trades, the bad news is the first trade is currently out of print. The good news is DC/Wildstorm are likely to do a reprint or 2 in 1 edition.
Astounding Wolf-Man #24: With one issue left, stakes are rising. It’s good to see Kirkman on a less sprawling project, but I’ll miss Wolf-Man. Hopefully he’ll pop up in the Guardians of the Globe title. Capes Inc and Damien Darkblood, useless…er, Demon Detective cameo!
Pleasant Surprises
Incredible Hulk #611: I’ve been wanting to see Skaar vs Hulk since I learned that Skaar had a vendetta and Banner approved of it. It was a good fight with appropriate Smash and sufficient Leave Hulk Alone.
Sky Doll; Lacrima Christi #1: Sky Doll is back to main storyline material! Marvel continues to reproduce this tale of faith, lust and power in their Soleil line. I highly recommend this European scifi title. Issue and trades available for special order!
Trades to Watch Out For
Lackadaisy v1: Available again! Kitty bootleggers and comedy rolled up in shiny art.
Bone, Tall Tales: In the digest color format, this is a good ’something extra’ to read along with Stupid Rat Tails for someone young or longing for a little more of the series.
Ultimates 2 Ultimate Collection: Get what was originally available in two trades in a confusion-free single volume edition!
