Weekly Favorites
Guarding the Globe #1: I like it when Kirkman’s disparate Image superhero clutch is drawn together in some way, into a book. Guarding the Globe brings back Brit (a personal and overall staff favorite here) and, predictably enough, the Guardians of the Globe characters you’ll recognize from Invincible. While Mark, Nolan and Oliver are off to the Viltrumite War, Cecil is out to cover all bases. Also, Robot impulsively jumps into the Flaxan dimension! Will doom ensue?
Ultimate Mystery #2: More of Ultimate Jessica Drew, who continues her team-up with Spider-Man to topple the Roxxon Corporation. Rick Jones is still trying to adjust in transit to being chosen by the Watchers to protect the Earth. I guess Carol Danvers doesn’t have a hot alien boyfriend anymore. Ultimate Enemy and Ultimate Mystery have been more of the good Ultimate FF/Nick Fury/Etc goodness I feared would be over when Ultimatum came around.
Wolfskin: Hundredth Dream #4: Bloody belligerent barbarian battles bastards and bashes..lots of things that ruin the alliteration. Wolfskin: Hundredth Dream is the same thinking man’s gore and violence, with some themes of interpretive perception.
Pleasant Surprises
Deadpool Team-Up #890: It had Machine Man on the cover, so I couldn’t help myself. Deadpool and Machine Man make a terrible team for our amusement! Is it wrong that I’m pleased how Aaron Stack still works for Delmar Insurance?
Science Dog #1: I loved the little clips of Invincible’s favorite childhood comic, and seeing them collected in a tidy issue pleases me. The promise of a continuing story pleases me more.
